Dear Readers

Dear Lovely

This past June, my eighth blogging anniversary came and went. That’s an eternity in the blogging world, and as many seasoned bloggers have mentioned time and time again, things have changed so very much. I’ve decided that the time has come to close the chapter on this blog. I’ve enjoyed it so much, and am incredibly grateful for every opportunity, new friend and experience I’ve gained because of it. But, I’m ready for something new; a fresh start.

Next month, I’m starting a new blog, Weekend Notebook. I’ve been thinking about it for months, brainstorming ideas, and have been really contemplating the kinds of things I want to share. When I started this blog, it was on a whim, with no real direction. On Weekend Notebook, I want my posts to be as authentic and personal as possible, and hope to genuinely connect with anyone that reads it.

This will be my last “official” post here - I’ll pop in to announce when Weekend Notebook is launched. In the meantime, you can subscribe to updates on the new blog here, and can follow along on Instagram.

Thank you for reading my blog after all these years. See you at the new place soon!

Dear Lovely - Pops

Hello friends. I’m back from an unexpected hiatus from the blog; my grandfather, Pops, passed away after a long and terrible battle with Alzheimer’s. Until you know someone with the disease, it’s hard to grasp how horrible it is. We traveled to Chicago for the funeral, which was a beautiful Catholic Mass on a perfect, sunny day. I got to see family that I hadn’t seen in years, and was so happy to spend time with my gram. Our Chicago family was also able to meet my four month old nephew, who weaved joy into an otherwise somber occasion.

Growing up, my siblings and I spent summers in Chicago with our Gram and Pops. Those memories are among some of my most treasured; a piece of my heart will always be there. Thank you for the kind messages and tweets. I’m truly grateful.

6 Statement Accessories for Summer

Dear Lovely - 6 Statement Accessories for Summer

I tend to gravitate toward turquoise, orange and fuchsia this time of year (aka colors that don't typically find their way into my closet.) Accessories though? The brighter, the better. From tassels and color blocking to nods to summer staples (Watermelon, yum!), I can't think of a better time of year to go bold. Do you find yourself reaching for statement accessories more in the summer, too?

5 Beauty Buys to Try

Dear Lovely - 5 Beauty Buys to Try

tory burch cosmetics case

Essie Gel-Setter Top Coat: This topcoat delivers gel-like shine and strength to any polish. I like how glossy it makes the polish looks, especially on my favorite red manicure. // Chlorine Clarify & Shine Rinse with Chamomile: For my fellow blondes...this finishing rinse (you apply it after shampoo and conditioner) brightens up blonde highlights and delivers shine. I’m kind of obsessed. // Garnier Fructis Sleek & Shine Anti-Frizz Serum: Don’t you love when a drugstore find really delivers? I can get away with skipping the flat iron thanks to this magic serum. It really does tame the frizz! // Ren Flash Rinse 1 Minute Facial: I received a sample of this and really loved the soft skin it delivered. It does have a metallic smell which isn’t great, but the results are worth it. // Bumble and Bumble Don’t Blow It (H)air Styler: It seems more and more ladies are all about the air dry, ESPECIALLY in the SUMMER. The bummer is, air drying often comes with frizz. This styler is made SPECIFICALLY for air drying your hair, and I have to say, it works. My hair had body and texture with less frizz, and it was silky and soft. Perfect on days when “I can’t even”.

Snapshots from the Week

Dear Lovely - Snapshots from the Week

No surprise, it’s been H-O-T here in Dallas. Truth be told, July and August are my two least favorite months of the year, and I’m sure the temperature has everything to do with it. Yesterday, was spent with my sister, brother, sister-in-law, and nephew. We dubbed it “Siblings Sunday”, strolled around Bishop Arts, and had lunch at Eno’s (delicious pizza if you’re in the Dallas area.) The highlight, of course, was spending time with my adorable (almost 4 month old) nephew. Being an aunt really is the most fun; especially now that his little personality is showing up. I’ll make any face and noise I can to get him to giggle and My hair is definitely one of his favorite toys. he grabs on just doesn’t let go. #ouch.

Words for Your Weekend

Dear Lovely - Words for Your Weekend

I spotted this quote in the August issue of Real Simple, and immediately thought, “YES!!” In our “I’m so busy all the time” world, nothing beats truly unplugging to re-charge the soul. Here’s wishing you a bit of time to “unplug” this weekend. Enjoy!

Can I Move In?

Dear Lovely - Beach House Vibes

If I had a beach house, you can bet it would look just like the beautiful Nantucket home of designer Victoria Hagan. Layers of neutrals and shades of blue, white walls and sisal rugs with a straight out of a nancy Meyers movie vibe. Since a beach house isn’t in the cards anytime soon, I’ve rounded up a few ‘get the look’ picks below. Head over to see the rest of the beautiful abode here.

Current Uniform

Dear Lovely - Current Uniform

Here in Dallas, 100 degree temps are officially in the forecast. This is by far my least favorite part of the summer, and with it being so hot out, sometimes it’s hard to look cute while staying cool. Right now I’m living in dresses (like this one from H&M), and flat sandals. Recently, on a particularly hot day, I decided I need to stop schlepping around my typical big tote, and need to switch to a simple cross-body for the rest of the summer. As for make-up, I’m all about bronzer right now, and am loving sheer white polish on my nails. And a classic pair of sunnies are a must; That sun can be brutal.

Coffee Table Bookworm

When it comes to collecting, coffee table books are at the top of my list. I tend to buy based on the cover since they’re basically ‘decor’. Luckily, most coffee table books have truly gorgeous covers, which means my wishlist for new titles is quite long. Here are a few I CURRENTLY have my eye on:

Have any title suggestions? I’d love the hear.

Snapshots from the Week

Dear Lovely | Kelly Christine Studio - Weekend Snapshots

Happy WEEKEND thought I’d pop in to say hello - I really hope to get back to blogging more consistently soon. Work has been busy, with a bunch of launches lately, and more fun projects on the way. I have a hair appointment with a new stylist tomorrow, which I’m definitely looking forward to. I’m getting balayage instead of my usual highlights, which I hope will result in a beachy, piecey blonde. (Fingers crossed. Maybe I’ll share a before and after!) Hope you have a lovely weekend!

Around Here

Dear Lovely - Around Here

It’s been while since I’ve done an “around here” post, but it’s nice to share little peeks at the things I’m loving right here at home. At the top of the list are two summer beauty favorites: OPI’s Funny Bunny (the perfect translucent white, on my nails in the peony photo) and St. Tropez In Shower Gradual Tan. It sounds weird, yes, but you guys. It. Works. I’ve never had a streak free sunless tanning experience, until I started using this stuff. Since you use it on wet skin in the shower, it’s much easier to apply and is practically fool proof.  //  I’ve always been a pretty-paper gal, but my love of lavender and lilac is on the new-ish side. My planner (from Target) and monogrammed notepad look quite lovely on my desk together.  //  I’ve been on the hunt for a new set of sheets, and decided to forgo my typical white set for something a little more fun. Aren’t those little blue and white dots darling?  //  Speaking of blue and white, I found a pair of vintage glasses while perusing the other booths at the Richardson Mercantile (where our Feathered booth is.) And I had to tuck this week’s peony bunch in a small ginger jar (similar available here.) It’s peony season just the best?

color file - preptista blog design

Kelly Christine Studio - Preptista Blog Design Color Inspiration

When I’m designing blogs and websites with clients, the color palette is one of the most important aspects of the design; it’s one of the first things we discuss. During the process, I gather inspiration to create a mood board that determines the general direction for the design, and it’s the first time the client sees the color palette all together. I thought I’d start sharing a bit more design-related content here, including a bit of  color inspiration straight from some of the designs I created.

First up, Preptista. Bubble gum pink paired with navy...preppy, classic and girly. I love the way pink and navy play off each other, and especially love how they came together in the design. Take a peek at the full design here.

P.S. Style Your Blog partial pre-made templates are back! Read more here.

I was recently browsing fabric on Spoonflower (one of my favorites!) for a DIY project and couldn’t get over just how good the options were. Every combination of color and pattern I came up with yielded gorgeous results. Out of this round-up, it’s hard to pick a favorite, but (as always) that blue and white combo is calling my name. (The tropical/mint version is pretty great, too.) Which combo would you choose?

The Striped T-Shirt Dress

Dear Lovely - Summer Style Staple - The Striped T-Shirt Dress

When the real summer heat rolls around, I could live in t-shirt dresses. They’re comfortable, breezy and can be worn with sandals or sneakers. (Easy, I tell you!) My favorite are the striped variety; you can’t go wrong with the classic, summery vibe. I rounded up a few of my favorites above -- are you a fan of this summer staple?
